Johns Hopkins University Inventory & Distribution Supervisor in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Genetic Medicine is seeking an Inventory & Distribution Supervisor to supervise the packaging and distribution of temperature sensitive and potentially hazardous bio-products to critical research laboratories within the University research supply chain. Oversee and monitor resources to appropriately ensure quality and integrity of materials. Ensure the distribution, with document control, of vital research materials for investigators within the Johns Hopkins system ensuring that all investigators receive items in an expedited and quality-controlled fashion. Supervise the work of Inventory and Distribution Coordinators.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor the supply chain functions of the Genetic Resources Core bio-product facility.

  • Supervise and train Core staff on daily functions and delivery protocol, with special attention given to product stability and integrity, and the safe handling and processing of bio-products.

  • Supervise and train direct reports in regard to JHU policy and regulations and ensure adherence to University protocol and DOT guidelines.

  • Follow and train on established DOT and University guidelines for shipping, storage and transporting of regulated bio-products and reagents.

  • Oversee the tracking and, distribution of bio-products and supplies, including accurate transition of supplies into monitored storage locations.

  • Monitor the distribution of products through invoice scanning and inventory tracking procedures.

  • Monitor, establish, balance and adjust distribution routes and procedures as needed.

  • Distribute GRCF resources to surrounding campuses through the use of the company vehicle.

  • Ensure all deliveries are staffed and completed accurately in timely fashion.

  • Facilitate distribution of products when staffing is insufficient to complete distribution.

  • Maintain the stability and integrity of the inventory items at all times, including temperature monitoring, biosafety distribution guidelines, safe chemical handling procedures, individual package stability recommendations, chain of custody monitoring and alarm system accuracy.

  • Adapt to changes in protocol as inventory and distribution needs arise.

  • Perform cross training duties with the Inventory Supervisor.

  • Monitor the alarm system and be on call to respond to monitoring alarms and equipment failure.

  • Maintain and update storage equipment as needed.

  • Develop and update procedures to execute quarterly inventory counts.

  • Process all orders within the database to create daily invoices for delivery.

  • Oversee the weekly reporting and removal of chemical waste and drop off.

  • Manage inventory and space management of stocked items and special-order chemicals.

  • Communicate directly with Biotech companies to monitor outstanding orders and discrepancies.

  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proficient in the use of the Sensaphone alarm system.

  • Proficient in the use of the temperature sensitive inventory monitoring systems.

  • Able to multitask and have strong attention to detail.

  • Able to adapt to change.

  • Outgoing, friendly, and highly responsible.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • HIPAA, DOT/IATA Dangerous Goods Shipping, Chemical Waste Management (obtained after employment).

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with clean driving record.

Specific Physical Requirements

  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.

  • Finger dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see and hear within normal parameters. Lift, carry, move supplies, computers, glassware, etc.

  • Able to move about workspace.

  • Able to walk and push a cart.

  • Some lifting of up to Able to sit/stand for long periods of time.

Supervisory Responsibility (indicate the number and type of persons supervised by incumbent)

  • Two Inventory & Distribution Coordinators

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/ GED.

  • Three years of related experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in a related discipline.

Classified Title: Inventory & Distribution Supervisor

Role/Level/Range: ATO 40/E/03/OE

Starting Salary Range: $18.00 - $33.50 HRLY ($53.560 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Full Time

Schedule: M-F, 8:30 to 5pm
